US television comedy 'Ugly Betty'

January 2007

Dulux is sponsoring Channel Four?s showing of the massively-successful US television comedy show 'Ugly Betty' as part of a ?15m marketing campaign to support the Dulux brand in 2007.

The show has already?received two Golden Globe awards and will run for 22 weeks (shown 3 times per week). The series kicked off on UK television on Friday evening with several of the new 'We know the Colours that Go" ads from Dulux in the commercial breaks.

The ads are designed to reinforce Dulux brand expertise in colour and colour-scheming and are aimed at 25-44 year old women who are often important decision makers when it comes to interior decoration.

Ugly Betty follows the daily life of Betty Suarez, a young woman from a struggling Latino family who works as an executive assistant at MODE fashion magazine. Most of her female co -workers are more attractive than she is; they often humiliate and insult her because of her appearance (her only friend is Christina). Suarez is not interested in fashion and is sometimes clueless about the company's motives and organizations. Her boss, the womanizing Daniel Meade (who initially turned her away because of her appearance), has a lack of fashion experience too.?

Ugly Betty has been a runaway success in the US, with some 16 million viewers tuning in per episode.

Based on "Yo Soy Betty La Fea" the groundbreaking Colombian comedy that became an international phenomenon, "Ugly Betty" is from Touchstone Television. Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Salma Hayek is executive producer.

At the Golden Globes Awards ceremony held in Hollywood on January 15, Ugly Betty won the Best Series award, beating Desperate Housewives and the US version of The Office. America Ferrara, who plays Betty, scooped the Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) award, again beating actresses from the highly-rated Desperate Housewives series.
