Lisa is ICI Student Award Winner

The ICI Award for the Best Chemistry Student has been won by Lisa Murphy of the University of Durham.
Lisa's entry 'Chiral electrochemical detection of 1 phenyl ethanol, a key intermediate in many pharmaceutical syntheses' won the chemistry part of the annual Science, Engineering & Technology Student of the Year Awards, commonly called the SET Awards, established as Britain's most important recognition for science and engineering undergraduates.
Lisa is pictured above receiving an engraved trophy from Dr. Graeme Armstrong, Senior Vice-president of Technology for ICI, at a SET Awards ceremony in London and will be invited to visit ICI sites in the UK.
According to Dr Graeme Armstrong, many high- quality nominations covering a wide range of research topics were received for the ICI-sponsored chemistry award, which was judged by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Dr. Armstrong said: "As a company committed to excellence in chemical technologies and leadership in formulation science, ICI is delighted to see such a high quality of chemistry students coming forward in the UK, and we are committed to engaging with UK academia to encourage quality chemistry education."
The 2006 Awards were also sponsored by, among others, AstraZeneca, BOC Group, Cadbury Schweppes, GlaxoSmithKline, and Microsoft Research.
