A Slick Operation
June 2008
Six of AkzoNobel's Specialty Chemicals businesses ' including one from the former ICI ' have joined forces to promote the company's sizeable portfolio for the oilfield industry.
The new approach means that the three business units involved ' Surface Chemistry, Functional Chemicals and Eka Chemicals ' will now make customers aware that they can offer more than just products from within their own particular activities.
"Under the old way of working, different sales and marketing people from each BU would go out to the same customers selling their own products," explained Peter van der Horst, Oilfield Marketing Manager for the Cellulosic Specialties business within Functional Chemicals.
"We now want to approach the market more as one company, which will make us stronger in the field of oilfield applications and help to give us a competitive advantage."
A special brochure has now been produced outlining AkzoNobel's global oilfield capabilities, launched at an industry event in Aberdeen, Scotland. It highlights what is on offer from all six businesses involved ' Cellulosic Specialties, Ethylene Amines, Chelates, Alco Chemical, Surface Chemistry and Eka Chemicals.
Later in the year, the company will also be attending an oilfield conference in Moscow, when both Specialty Chemicals and Performance Coatings will share a booth to promote the company's total product offering to the industry. Chemicals supplied to the oilfield industry are mainly used for exploration and extraction, with the market being worth around £10 billion per annum.
